This example is fictional and written for illustration. Replace every name, company, date and number with your own facts.

  • List your qualifications, such as NVQ Level 3, 18th Edition, AM2 and inspection and testing certificates, in a visible spot, with the year each was achieved.
  • Name the building types you have worked on, such as new-build homes, offices or retail units, so recruiters can match your experience quickly.
  • Quantify scope with plain numbers, such as homes wired, boards installed or apprentices supervised, instead of vague claims of being hardworking.
  • Mention the test equipment you use, such as insulation resistance testers, loop impedance testers and thermal cameras, since employers search for these terms.
  • State your safety record factually, such as isolation procedures followed and inspections passed first time, without exaggeration.
Should I list every electrical qualification on my resume?

List those relevant to the role first: your core diploma or NVQ, current wiring regulations, ECS or JIB card status, and any inspection and testing certificates. Older or unrelated courses can be dropped if space is tight.

How do I show experience if I mostly did first fix work?

Be specific about what you installed, the project types and the scale. Add any testing, labelling or handover tasks you supported, and note that you are keen to broaden into second fix or inspection work.

Is it worth including apprentices I supervised?

Yes, if it is true. Mentoring shows reliability and leadership. State how many apprentices you supported and what they achieved, such as completing assessments, without overstating your formal responsibilities.
